The Digital and Information Agency (DIA) has launched a new application, eDoklady following the amendment to the Law on the Right to Digital Services. It has been available for download on the App Store and Google Play since January 20, 2024, and provides an alternative to traditional identity documents.
🟢How does the app work?
Log in
- Access to the application is secured by biometric data—face recognition and fingerprint. Therefore, no one other than the user should be able to access it, even offline without an internet connection.
- In case of phone loss, the application can be disconnected via the Citizen Portal. The electronic version of the ID card is linked to the validity of the physical document—once it expires, the electronic ID automatically becomes invalid as well. The application will notify the user 90 days before expiration to prompt renewal.
🟢Where can I use eDoclad?
- In the first phase, the electronic ID card will be usable at ministries and other so-called central administrative authorities, as well as by private entities for age verification, e.g., in stores.
- Od 1. 7. 2025 at the police, financial offices, trade offices, ČSSZ, cadastral offices, registry offices, regional offices, municipalities with extended competence and labour offices;
- Od 1. 1. 2025 will be followed by the remaining local governments, post offices, banks and embassies of the Czech Republic abroad;
- From the beginning of 2025, the electronic ID card can also be used for identification at polling stations;
- Entrepreneurs and companies will also be able to verify personal data using eDoclad after registering via a data box. This is a significant simplification of identity proofing that will also bring greater security and control over personal data. When proving, the user will see what data from the electronic ID card is required and has the option to confirm or deny its transmission. In this way, they can also avoid, for example, the disclosure of data that are not required of them as in the case of physical presentation of an ID card.
No data is stored in the application for the verifier, and a list of all verifications performed by the verifier is stored for the verifier if the verifier has enabled this option in the application. The verification history will not be accessible to the state or anyone else. It should not be possible to forge an electronic ID card. The encrypted data will be decrypted by the verifier to verify its validity.
At the same time, the current plastic version of the ID card remains valid. Further information on the operation of eDocuments can be found on the website: https://edoklady.gov.cz/
